Antti reports from the Posio hills! #posiohillsintwoyears “In the weekend, I visited two hills that can be reached by skis from my home. The clouds were hanging low and cold wind swept across the Kirintöjärvi lake on the way to the Kirintövaara hill on Saturday. The snow was extra fluffy on the hillside and my skis felt slippery. On Sunday, I skied about three hours to get to the Nilovaara hill and back. The route I picked went quickly across a few small bogs and slowly through some thick bushes. Finding the route wasn’t easy even with a navigation app. A bird had left interesting impressions on the snow close to Nilovaara. I have also learned about Posio through reading. Ilkka Malmberg (1954-2016) wrote a series of short articles to the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper for almost twenty years about a plot of land he bought from Posio in 1997. The idea of the series was to find and buy the cheapest hectare of land in Finland and see the world from the point of view of a landowner. What an inspiring way to learn about one’s surroundings!”
