For those who find peace and inspiration in nature, this day reveals the very best of Posio’s wilderness — from the hidden charm of Auttiköngäs waterfall to the dramatic beauty of Korouoma Canyon. It’s a journey through pure air, quiet trails, and the timeless calm of Lapland’s forests and fells.
You’ll meet your guide in the morning and set off on a scenic two-hour journey from Rovaniemi, passing through the quiet beauty of Lapland’s forests and frozen rivers. The road itself is part of the adventure — a peaceful drive through the Arctic wilderness where snow and light play together in endless shades of white and blue.
During the day, you’ll explore Auttiköngäs waterfall, a serene natural site hidden deep within an old-growth forest. In winter, the water flows slowly beneath layers of snow and ice, creating a quiet, dreamlike atmosphere. A short walk takes you across wooden bridges and viewing platforms, where you can feel the power of nature and the stillness of the surrounding forest.
You’ll also discover Korouoma Canyon, a protected nature reserve famous for its dramatic cliffs, frozen waterfalls, and quiet forest trails. The route follows a gentle path along the canyon’s rim and descends into its ancient valley, where time seems to stand still. In winter, the cliffs turn into a cathedral of ice, while in autumn, the canyon walls glow in shades of gold and crimson. Along the way, your guide shares insights into Arctic wildlife, plants, and the fragile balance of life in the North.
After the hike, enjoy a warm local-style lunch at the Korouoma restaurant, nestled in the quiet forest near the canyon’s entrance. It’s a cozy place to relax by the fire, taste authentic Lapland flavors, and share impressions from your adventure before continuing the journey through Posio’s peaceful landscapes.
