A Day in Posio – Ceramics and Local Life

Spend a day exploring the creative and authentic side of Lapland. In Posio, art and nature live in harmony — reflected in every handmade ceramic piece and every quiet lakeshore view.

You’ll meet your guide in the morning and begin a scenic two-hour drive from Rovaniemi through silent forests and frozen rivers — a peaceful journey into the heart of Lapland’s wilderness.

During this inspiring day in Posio, you’ll get to explore the region’s creative spirit and close relationship with nature.

Visit local artist Miki Kim in her tranquil Miki Studio, where clay, glazes, and soft light reveal how Lapland’s nature shapes each unique ceramic piece. Learn about the slow, mindful process behind her craft.

At the Pentik Hill Culture Centre, the world’s northernmost ceramics factory and an icon of Finnish design, you can wander through galleries and exhibitions, and pause for a moment in the charming café — feeling the calm rhythm of the North.

You’ll also meet a local fisherman by a tranquil lakeshore and hear stories of life shaped by the seasons and the water. You’ll see traditional fishing methods and experience Lapland’s deep connection to nature — while enjoying a fresh, home-style lunch by the fire, prepared from the lake’s own bounty.

As the day winds down, stop at Lehtiniemi Guesthouse for a peaceful afternoon coffee by the lake, taking in the quiet scenery before your return to Rovaniemi.

Koruoma Canyon tours

Korouoma Wilderness Café’s Authentic Icefall Tour & Lunch

Welcome to a unique frozen waterfall adventure in Korouoma Nature Reserve, guided by local siblings from Posio.

We spent our childhoods exploring these forested canyon valleys, playing by streams and wandering through snow-laden landscapes. Now, we want to share the magic of Korouoma with you – genuinely and with love.

Your adventure begins in Rovaniemi, where we pick you up in 7+1-seater vehicle. As we drive toward Posio, the landscape turns more Arctic—and with luck, you might spot reindeer!

Upon arrival, we provide ice spikes and start our hike toward the canyon floor. The loop is around 5 km and includes a steep descent, a walk along the canyon floor, and a climb back up. You’ll be surrounded by towering frozen waterfalls, snow-covered spruce forests, and the quiet wilderness of Lapland.

This is not a rushed group tour but a calm, personal journey into nature. Safety and authenticity are our top priorities. We know the terrain, weather, and region deeply—this is our home so if you need help for example with warm winter clothing, feel free to contact us. We pause often for photography and peaceful moments. You’ll also hear stories about Lapland, nature, and life in the Arctic countryside.

At the bottom of the canyon, enjoy handmade snacks from Korouoma Wilderness Café: traditional Lapland baked treats and steaming juice made from our own garden’s currants, spiced with the flavors of winter.

The tour ends beautifully with a traditional soup lunch after the hike. In our recently built wilderness café – a cozy log house that will be completed soon, in October 2025 using traditional building methods – you’ll enjoy a warm bowl of soup served with side dishes such as local bread and drink. The meal is prepared with love on site using local ingredients. This peaceful moment by the fireplace brings your full winter experience together – like the final touch to a perfect day in nature.
