MIKI STUDIO

Miki Studio, founded by Miki Kim in the summer of 2012 in Kirintövaara, Posio, is surrounded by the inspiring nature of the Arctic. The silence, space, and ever-changing seasons such as snow, cold, aurora, and shifting light offer rich sources of inspiration. These elements shape the studio’s unique ceramic expressions, deeply rooted in the northern landscape. Since 2018, the studio has also operated a combined shop, showroom, and workspace in the center of Posio.

Miki Kim

Miki Kim is a South Korean ceramic artist based in Lapland, Finland. With a background in ceramic design, she explores the expanded field of contemporary ceramic art by combining porcelain with a variety of materials. Drawing deep inspiration from the serene and majestic nature of the Arctic region, her practice reflects a delicate dialogue between the natural world and personal experience.

Snowy owl

In Lapland, Miki became familiar with owls. While many animals and birds change their colors with the seasons, the snowy owl remains light-colored year-round. To her, it symbolizes the Arctic and the quiet courage to remain true to oneself, unafraid of lightness.

Sausage Bear

One of Miki’s first joyful experiences in Lapland was entering the forest, making a fire, and grilling sausages. Around the same time, a polar bear named Ranzo was born in a nearby town. Inspired by these two events, she created the “sausage bear.” On long, dark winter evenings, the sausage bear evokes the warmth of a campfire and the quiet magic of the Arctic forest, offering a whimsical companion to those who gaze into the flames.
